We had the joy of traveling to work in Nairobi, Kenya for the first time. Nairobi is a large sprawling city with millions of people. Christianity has grown incredibly in Nairobi and a very large number of churches are seen even by the casual observer as Kenyans are leading churches across the city and beyond.

Customer Service TrainingWe had the privilege to work with East Africa School of Theology, EAST. This school has been in the process of receiving recognition as a University by Kenya and will become (is now) KAG EAST University. As the school makes this transition, we had the opportunity to help the school through training and coaching focusing primarily on various aspects of human resources.

Our first focus involved customer service training. The school is working toward streamlining several processes and cutting down the wait time for visitors to the offices. A transition was made from seeing a visitor as a distraction from normal work to becoming a welcome guest who is important to the school's overall success and is treated as such. We observed several changes in the office staff and those being served by the school as we quietly observed the campus.

We took part in several meetings with the management team of KAG EAST. This team makes decisions regarding all aspects of the school and forges ahead with plans for the future of the school. During some of the sessions, we provided training on various topics surrounding leadership and decision making. We explored the structure of the school for various positions and discussed revisions to some positions.

Team BuildingSeveral days were spent coaching the Human Resources Director for the school. All of the positions at the school are under review and revised job descriptions being created for most positions. Many employees will have a clearer understanding of their responsibilities in the near future. New systems are in place to reward employees who provide outstanding work for the school and go above and beyond the norm in their performance.

We visited several churches and enjoyed services with God's people. It is always refreshing to worship with people of different cultures who worship God within the context of their culture. Speaking in services is always a highlight and this time, we shared a special time with a church enjoying Holy Communion.

We are planning a return trip to Nairobi in the future. The next project will involve KAG EAST again, plus new opportunities with other churches and work in an area known as "Little Somalia" to help business people make the most of their work.
