We returned to China for another great time with a church. Over the last two years, we assisted in building a wonderful new church which should be in full use very soon. First, we moved bricks for the foundation and a year later, we built some walls. This year we returned to find the church nearly complete. People were working throughout the building in the last push for completion. This time, we weren't there to work on the building but to work with students.
We traveled to China to provide an English camp for two groups of students. Each camp lasted four days. Everything we did was in English with some help from our wonderful interpreter, Jenny. The first camp involved middle-school and high school students, with a few younger people who attended. The second camp focused on college age students.
Each day, we began as a group and each member of the team shared a personal story with the group. Then, we played a few games to get everyone warmed up for the day. After the games, the students made their way to one of the corners of the large room for various sessions. Each day we had a different craft which required the students to follow directions given to them in English. We provided simple English lessons focusing on everyday conversations. We taught some English songs as well.
In the afternoons, we played a few more games, sang together as a group and spent some additional learning time together. Some of the best times occurred during lunch time when the team was free to interact with the students during the break. The students all responded well to the camp and had a great time! Each member of the team made special connections with the students.
We thoroughly enjoyed worshipping with the church during church services. The church holds two services on Sundays in different locations. The basement of the new building was packed with people from front to back with some people standing in the back. In the second building, the original church location, people squeeze in to fill every available seat. Our team sang some songs and shared encouraging messages with the church. We look forward to our next opportunity in China and seeing the completed building.
Thank you for your prayers and support for this work in China. With your help, we have impacted thousands of lives in China and with your help, we will impact thousands more.
